Dragon Fruit Sangria Tea with a little kick!

Updated: May 13

After a wonderful evening out at The Main Ingredient. I was even more inspired to play more with my food and with their beautiful array of Spice Blends and Teas.

The Main Ingredient is a store full of Local Artisanal and specialty foods. They have all Natural all organic and all diet types. Back in April we spent a delightful evening at The Main Ingredient that was full whimsy with what I like to call a little magic.

The evening was an Alice in Wonderland themed Tea Party, ( I love a good Tea Party). The tables were set with a Mad Hatter whimsy in mind. Everyone was dressed in their costumes for the evening with their garden dresses and crazy hats. In fact I did catch a glimpse of the Mad Hatter himself!

The store was amazingly decorated with beautiful artwork on the walls of Alice in Wonderland and I thought I saw the Cheshire Cat hiding somewhere.

Love the owners!! Love their tastes and creativity. You have to go check out the store! There are 2 locations, Lutz and then Land'o'Lakes.

The food & drink were served with a taste of their spice blends and teas. I especially enjoyed their “Dragon Fruit Sangria” and “Purple Rain.”

So I was inspired to do a drink with their Dragon Fruit Sangria Tea. I have to tell you their tea bags are really pretty and very fragrant, it certainly reminds me of a magical tropical garden somewhere.

Dragon Fruit Sangria Tea with a little kick!

The flavors are already so tasteful in the tea, I just wanted to load it more fresh fruit, and I did.

I steeped 2-3 teabags in boiling hot water until the tea was a nice deep purple in color and very fragrant.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup of fresh or frozen blueberries

2 oranges or blood oranges sliced

5-6 strawberries halved

1 lemon and 1 lime sliced

Ice

Glass topper

1/2 c. granulated sugar

1/2 zest of an orange

1/2 zest of a lemon

1 zest of a lime

1/2c. of sugar, sweetener or agave (your choice)to add to the tea.

  • Allow the teabags to steep 15-20 minutes until the boiling water is a nice deep purple in color.

  • Add sugar and stir in.

  • Refrigerate until cool

  • Add sliced fruit & berries

  • Allow to sit in the fridge for the fruit to marry with the tea.

To serve:

On a flat plate, add the sugar and the grated citrus zest, then rub the zest and sugar together until everything blends and you start smelling this beautiful citrus smell. When you rub the zest into the sugar you release the natural oils and it smells fabulous!

Take your favorite glass rub the rim with a lime or lemon and coat the top of the glass in the citrus sugar blend.

Add ice and a good shot of vodka then top with the dragon fruit sangria iced tea. I like to serve the alcohol in the glasses, just in case someone wants to have the tea without the kick!

Either way the tea is very quenching and makes for a really pretty summer drink. You may decorate how you want.

You can also add Prosecco, Moscato, or a little Tequila!!

My glasses are from Cost plus World Market and when I saw them, I thought they would be so adorable for the perfect summer drink!
