Cook time: 25 minutes in a 350 oven
Yields: 8 pie pieces
Ingredients
3 cups of A.P flour
1/2 tsp of salt
2 tsp. of baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. garlic salt
1 cup of ham cubed in to small pieces
1 cup of grated cheddar
1 1/2 sticks of unsalted butter (cold & cubed or grated)
1c. cup of buttermilk
1 tablespoons of freshly chopped chives
egg wash- 1 egg with 3 tbsp. cream whisked
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a large bowl, add your flour and grated chilled butter.
add salt, baking powder and baking soda
squeeze the butter with your hands into the dry mixture and keep mixing until it looks like crumbly mixture.
you still want to see small pieces of butter in the mixture..
add cheese, chives and ham, then add the buttermilk.
Combine just until its all incorporated.
turn out your biscuit dough on your floured surface.
shape the dough into a rectangle shape. (5 inches across and 1-2 inches in depth 10-12 inches length) then fold the top end into the middle and the bottom end into the middle, roll it over and roll it out and do the same thing again 3-4 times over.
This is alot of work but it builds beautiful layers.
On the last roll out to about 1 inch to 1 1/2inch then length wise about 10-12 inches.
cut in half length ways, then into squares, then into triangles.
I brushed the tops with egg wash
Pop them into a preheated oven for 25 minutes at 350 degrees F. You will know when they are ready because they will be browned at the bottom and lightly browned at the top. Lots of cheesy goodness oozing out of those biscuits!
