I found these beautiful martini glasses at work. I instantly thought of an elegant, shrimp cocktail. After a few different ideas I did stick to a simple and original cocktail. We all know that fresh seafood around here in Florida! Everything is so bountiful and abundant.
Shrimp cocktail made easy!
Easily makes 2-3 cocktails, of course depends on the size of your glass.
1/2 small minced onion
1 small-med grated garlic clove
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/2c. clamato juice
1/2 juice of a lemon
1 1/2tbsp. of horseradish
1 tbsp. chopped capers
1c. ketchup
1/4 tsp. garlic salt
1/4 tsp. salt
Some cracked pepper
16-20 shrimp. (key West shrimp is always good)
Few drops of your favorite hot sauce
You can buy Clamato juice spicy, in which case you will not have to use hot sauce. Unless you like it spicy! Clamato juice is tomato juice & clam juice. You can find it here in Florida at your local grocery store or liquor store.
I bought my shrimp already cooked. If I were to buy them fresh and uncooked I would clean, peel and deveined them. Of course leaving the tails on.
Deveining the shrimp means after you remove the outer shell, you use a small knife and cut down the back of the shrimp 1/4 of an inch and remove the digestive track from the shrimp making sure to clean them in cold water after.
Then I would simply drop them in boiling water with lemon slices & salt until they turn a beautiful pink. (5 minutes )Then take them out right away and drop into an ice bath to stop them cooking.
For the cocktail sauce add the minced onion, grated garlic, horseradish and capers together in a bowl.
add the rest of the wet ingredients and spices. Mix well and always remember to taste.
